Founded by Angelica Nwandu in 2014, The Shade Room has built a dedicated and highly engaged community of readers---better known as the Roommates---across the digital and social media landscape. THE SHADE ROOM is the culture --- What’s going on, who's worth talking about, the trends, the hashtags, and the challenges in the streets and on Tik Tok. More than a gossip outlet, TSR combines investigative and original reporting with crowdsourced tips to provide a 24/7 multi-platform non-traditional news source that covers entertainment, music, world news, politics, style, and more through an unbiased, unfiltered, and unapologetic Black lens. And, with a 50% visitor return rate, it’s safe to say that when new guests step into The Shade Room, they’re here to stay.

TSR has recognized its position as a leader in the social media sphere and is dedicated to creating content that brings both entertainment and positive influence to our culture. In 2024, we will undergo a rebranding effort to communicate this change in our approach to our partners and consumers. Currently, we operate with six key principles that shape our social and editorial content: Educational, Healthy Amplification, Celebration of Black Influence and Culture, Information That Matters, Positive Relevant Entertainment & Black Empowerment.
